In a reminiscent scene of Bihar's tumultuous political landscape, members of Lalu Prasad Yadav's party besieged the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Patna today amidst ongoing questioning of the former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo. The interrogation, pertaining to a land-for-job case, has sparked outrage among RJD activists, who gathered outside the ED office to protest against what they perceive as harassment by the central government.
This is the second instance of Lalu Prasad Yadav being questioned, with the previous interrogation lasting for eight hours on April 11 last year. In a related development, Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu's son and RJD leader, is scheduled to be interrogated tomorrow, January 30.
The case under investigation by the ED is based on a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), alleging that during the tenure of Lalu Prasad Yadav as Railway Minister in 2008-09, railway jobs were offered in exchange for land. Besides Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, daughter Misa Bharti, and Hema Yadav, along with twelve others, have been named in the FIR.
Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the ED team has also arrived at Chief Minister Hemant Soren's residence for questioning regarding the land scam. However, no meeting has taken place yet. The development has sparked agitation among Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) activists, with a letter sent from the ED's local office scheduling the interrogation for January 31.
